Professional trip to New Zealand

Mona has been awarded a professional development award by Scottish Art Council -aka Creative Scotland- towards the cost of travel and accomodation to attend the World of Wearable Arts Awards in New Zealand.

Although I haven’t gone through to the Awards show, I made it through the first selection and got asked to send my costume to New Zealand to be judged.
This is a fantastic opportunity to see costumes by international designers and last year winners, get feedback from the judges’ forum and comprehend the designs selection process of the show. Networking will play a big part in this project. I will be learning and get inspired from the various places I will be visiting such as the renowned WETA workshop and the world of wearable Art museum, that will encourage future productions in Scotland and internationally.

Conflux Maximus at the Surge Parade

Have a peak at the gladiatorial parade that stomped the streets of Glasgow on Friday 23rd July. The Surge Festival collaborated with the Merchant City Festival to celebrate Scotland’s first physical performace festival. The parade was lead by Ian Smith from Mischief La Bas and in collaboration with Promote-YT.

Meadows Festival clothing stall

MK Design will be at Edinburgh’s Meadows Festival. The stall will be shared by local textile artists.

We will be at the corner of Jawbone Walk and Coronation Walk, not far from the lovely Pavilion Cafe on saturday 5th 9am-5pm and sunday 6th 11am-5pm.

Costuming The Surge Festival Grande Parade

As part of the Surge Festival happening in Glasgow in 19th-25th July, Mona is designing costumes for the Grande Parade “Conflux Maximus” working in collaboration with props & set designer Elizabeth Young and Mischief Labas artistic director Ian Smith.

We will be leading workshops at the Promote YT’s National Festival of Youth Theatre in Glenrothes in 2nd-4th July.

The Surge Festival is “Scotland’s first physical performance festival incorporating street arts, physical theatre and circus”

“Conflux is a project developing a voice for Scottish artists working in the field of Physical Performance (incorporating street arts, physical theatre and circus).”

Sending costume to New Zealand!

Mona’s latest creation is being send to the World of Wearable Art competition taking place in Wellington, New Zealand where it will be judged if suitable to be part of the the Montana World of WearableArt™ Awards Show in September 2010.

The World of Wearable Art Awards are said to be “Mardi Gras Meets Haute Couture at a Peter Gabriel concert directed by Salvador Dali.” This is an amazing opportunity to market her creativity worldwide and be seen by an audience of over 40,000.

Workshop facilitator & Costume consultant for Beltane Fire Society

In collaboration with the groups facilitators and their groups of performers to one of Europe’s largest fire festival, Mona will be available to discuss costume designs and give advice. She will be leading basic costume making and construction workshops. Beltane is held every year on the night of 30th April on Calton Hill, Edinburgh.

The Big Man Walking artistic director Symon Macintyre has asked MK Design to create an outfit to the Watcher that will be performing with the Big Man on 1st January 2010 as part of Edinburgh’s Hogmanay.
