“What Moves You? is a participatory arts project connecting to communities using movement and performance.” Dawn Hartley brought together fellow Dance Artists Skye Reynolds, Julia McGhee and Niamh O’Loughlin to develop their own solo performances in partnership with 4 theatres across Scotland. Julia’s solo premiered on Saturday 10 July at the Lyth Arts Centre by Wick.
Set outdoors, Flow country is inspired by the Flow country set between Caithness and Sutherland in the Scottish Highlands, the dance performance illustrates a place once taken over by humans now being restored to its original wetlands. The costume evolves during the performance encompassing from an embracing marshland, flowing waterfall, wildlife and natural elements to hill walkers. The cape – kindly referred to as ‘the bog blanket’- is hand painted on natural fibres by Mona encompassing the flora and fauna of Caithness.
