I Like to Fly is a tale of getting lost in a disconnected world of time race and mirrors, before reconnecting to the small joy of Life, family and friendship.
Conscious thought, ample time and fierce efforts were taken to accomplish the zero waste creations. The base for the character design was to repurpose 2nd hand materials and found objects destined to the landfill. Over 65 pairs of jeans, shirts and suit jackets were collected from 15 charity shops, washed, hand dyed, deconstructed and patchworked into the colourful costumes.
The costumes were implemented in Scotland in a pop up workshop created especially to be brought to Qatar for the show. It was shortly stopped abruptly as the pandemic hit and the team adapted by gathering weekly online with a focus on wellbeing, solidarity and connection during the isolating times. We successfully resumed with the new health guidelines to complete the costumes. The performance is still postponed indefinitely.
Pictures of the designs, costumes, make up and props are waiting patiently for the day the show premieres.
