That’s the title that got chosen by our director Paul Gordon for the piece of visual theatre performance we created for Scrapyard.
6 artists came together: Nanouche Oriano (puppeteer), Angie Cassidy (performer and director), Maz Sanjoori (performer, musician and writer), Kasia Rozycki (performer and director), Paul Gordon (performer and director) and myself.
Review by Kit Cubitt from Manipulate: great “sensory delight, where my ears were tickled with the rustling and tumbling of loose newspaper in the dark. The lights may well have stayed off the entire performance, as the live sounds and suggested visuals created using newspaper in its multitudinous forms was enough to fill my head- however the vague lighting revealed two full body newspaper mannequins exploring their physical limitations and unique properties of existing.”
It was very nice to devise a piece of theatre with performer, being part of the creating process. It makes me want even more to be looking for choreographers or performers who would be interested in pushing the boundaries of costume in performance. Being able to be looking at how the body can move with “costume” – which could be anything and that would arise from the devising. Exploring the shapes and textures that the “costume” could bring visually. But as part of the visual work. It could be a starting point for devising or it could be developed during devising. Exciting times ahead!
