I’ve finally handed in my master thesis. Ready to be reviewed and marked by my supervisors. What a journey this has been! This is only the beginning as this thesis feels to me like the introduction to the many years coming.
Abstract: Current limitations with the sustainability of theatre production, both in terms of ecological and social issues, cause an imbalance that indicates a need for innovation, questioning traditional ways of working within the industry. Responding to these concerns, this thesis builds on ecoscenography to develop the designer’s ecosophy and address active whole people engagement as an important part of creating a sustainable world. It implements ecoscenography guiding principles through live practice based research of the creative works, cyclically reflecting on itself and moving forward. The research is conducted through the designer’s experience as a woman, artist and designer in an embodied practice. The thesis culminates in the whole designer’s manifesto established by identifying emerging themes between theories and creative works practice. Designed for social impact, this thesis brings new insights to the field of ecoscenography by highlighting the important notions of wholeness, interconnectivity, and authentic community engagement.
